I’m having trouble adding my Wise card to a mobile wallet

If you’re having trouble adding your Wise card to a mobile wallet like Apple Pay or Google Pay, the problem is usually related to eligibility or a missed step in the process.

This guide will help you check if you're eligible and show you how to add your card correctly.

Step 1 — Check if your card is eligible

To add your card to a mobile wallet, you need to have:

  • A Wise card issued in a supported country

  • An active Wise card (it can't be frozen, blocked, or cancelled)

  • The latest version of the Wise app installed

  • A device that supports the mobile wallet you want to use

**Indonesia: You must activate your card with a Chip & PIN transaction before you can add it to a mobile wallet.

Step 2 — How to add your card to a mobile wallet

The easiest way to add your card is from the Wise app. Don't try to add it by typing the details into your mobile wallet app directly.

  1. Open the Wise app

  2. Go to the Card tab and select the card you want to add

  3. Tap on Add to Apple Wallet or Add to Google Pay

  4. Follow the steps as per links on the table to complete the process. We'll send a push notification to verify you.

Have you replaced your card?

If you've ordered a replacement card, remember to remove your old, cancelled card from your mobile wallet first. The details for the new card won't update automatically.

Step 3 — Still having trouble? Try these solutions

If you've confirmed you're eligible but are still running into issues, here are some common fixes.

Why do I see a "Card not added" or "Contact your card issuer" error?

This usually means there's an issue with your address, personal details, or the way you're adding the card.

  • Check your billing address: Make sure the address on your Wise account matches the billing address in your Google Pay or Apple ID account.

  • Did you add the card from the Wise app? Errors like this, or a message asking you to "Call Wise" for verification, can happen if you try to add the card manually from your phone's wallet. Please make sure you follow the instructions in Step 2.

What if my physical card was just issued?

If you've just ordered a physical card, you may need to activate it first before you can add it to a mobile wallet.

What if I'm not receiving the verification code?

We verify your card by sending a push notification to the Wise app or an SMS code. If you're not receiving it:

  • Make sure you have notifications enabled for the Wise app in your phone's settings.

  • Check that your phone number is correct in your Wise profile.

  • If you're a US customer without a US phone number, choose the option to receive the code by email instead.

If you've tried everything and still can't add your card, please get in touch with us for more help.
