How do I freeze or unfreeze my Wise card?

If you’ve misplaced your card, noticed a transaction you don't recognise, or just want to pause spending, you can freeze your card any time to keep your money safe.

Freezing your card is a temporary measure. While it's frozen, you can't use it for payments, but your account and currencies will still work as normal.

How to freeze your card

On the web:

  • Go to the Cards tab

  • Select Freeze card

On the app:

  • Go to the Card tab

  • Select Freeze card

How to unfreeze your card

To unfreeze your card, simply follow the same steps above and select Unfreeze card.

What should I do after freezing my card?

  • If you suspect fraud or see an unrecognised transaction, you should also report the transaction and then cancel your card

  • If your card was lost or stolen, you should replace it. This will cancel your old card and allow you to order a new one

What happens when my card is frozen?

When your card is frozen:

  • You can't make any new payments (in-store, online, or with a mobile wallet)

  • You can't withdraw money from an ATM

  • Any recurring payments or subscriptions you have set up will be declined

But, you can still:

  • Receive money into your Wise account

  • Send money from your currencies to others

Why can't I unfreeze my card?

If you can't see the option to Unfreeze card, it's because we've had to restrict it for security reasons. This can happen if we detect suspicious activity.

When your card is restricted, it's also frozen, and you won't be able to unfreeze it yourself. Please contact us so we can help you.
