Open Banking is a secure way to connect your Wise account with authorised apps, like accounting software. It allows you to share your financial data and initiate payments directly from these apps. It works using secure connections called application programming interfaces (APIs).
This gives you more control over your information. Instead of being locked by your bank, you choose which services can access your data.
Is it safe?
Yes. Open Banking operates under strict regulations, like PSD2 in Europe. This ensures your data is shared safely and only with your permission.
How does this work with my accounting software?
When you connect your Wise Business account to your accounting software, you’re giving it permission to view your transaction history, balances, and account details.
This creates a secure link that automatically updates your books. You won't need to manually upload statements or CSV files anymore. Your transactions will appear in your accounting system shortly after they happen in Wise.
Why do I need to re-approve the connection every few months?
By law, your permission to share data expires after 90–180 days. You’ll need to re-authorise the connection to keep it active. This is a security feature to make sure you’re still in control of who sees your financial data.
For more information about open banking regulations:
UK customers: The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)
European customers: Payment Services Directive (PSD2)
Australian customers: Consumer Data Right (CDR)
Other regions: Some countries have their own open banking regulations. Please refer to the relevant guidelines for your region.
What are Third-Party Providers (TPPs)?
Sometimes, connections are made using a specialised service called a Third-Party Provider (TPP). These companies, like Plaid or Yodlee, act as a secure go-between for Wise and your accounting app.
Because of this, you might see the TPP’s name (like Plaid) listed in your Wise account's connected apps, instead of the name of your accounting software.
How do I disconnect?
You can disconnect an app in two ways:
From your Wise account
Go to Integrations and tools under Settings
Go to Apps and Software
Find the app you want to remove and select Disconnect
From the connected app
Go to the settings within your accounting app.
Follow their instructions to disconnect the bank feed from Wise.
Important: If you've connected Wise with multiple apps through the same TPP (like Plaid), disconnecting it from your Wise account will remove all of them. To remove just one app, it's best to disconnect it from within that specific app's settings.
Connections will also expire automatically if you don't re-approve them in time. This ensures old or unused connections don't stay active.
