How Young Explorer works

Young Explorer is a card for 6-17-year-olds, managed by parents. It's currently available for Wise account holders living in Australia, Brazil, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland, and the UK.

Your child will get a card which they can use to spend directly from money you set aside for them. They won’t have their own account details and it won’t be possible for them to top up their card, so any money will need to be added by you for now.

Young Explorer is still a beta — which means it won’t have all the features you might expect yet, but we’re working on it.

If all features aren't available in your region yet, ordering a Young Explorer card ensures you're first to know when we launch. You’ll also have a chance to tell us what you’d like us to work on next.

If you’re a parent setting up Young Explorer

Here’s how it works:

1. Order a card

They can use their card globally — in store, online and at ATMs. If they’re 13 or over, they can add it to Apple Pay or Google Pay, too.

  • Exception: In Singapore, you can’t use the card at ATMs (including ATMs both in Singapore and abroad).

2. Add money

Top up their card instantly, in the currency they need by following these steps:

  • Select Add in Young Explorer

  • Choose how you want to add money, either from your Wise account or another account

  • Enter the amount

  • Select Confirm and move

3. Set up an allowance

Schedule pocket money to be sent automatically from your Wise account to your child’s Young Explorer balance. Only the main parent can set up and manage allowances — this feature is not available for the co-parent yet.

Go to your Young Explorer Account, select Options and Set your child's allowance.

4. Set limits

Choose how much they can spend in a day and over a month. Their spending will count towards your overall account limits. Learn more about overall monthly spending limits, depending where you live.

5. Monitor their spending

Keep an eye on their card usage, with all transactions available to view through your app.

6. Let them spend globally

They’ll get the same benefits as you when using their Wise card overseas — no exchange rate markups or high transaction fees.

How do I move or convert money to Young Explorer?

  1. Select Move from either your account or Young Explorer.

  2. Under From, select the currency dropdown, then choose the account and currency you want to move or convert from.

    • If the currency isn't already available in Young Explorer, select the + button to add it.

  3. Under To, select the currency dropdown, then choose Young Explorer and the currency you want to move money to.

  4. Enter the amount.

    • If you're converting between currencies, review any fees before continuing.

    • If you're moving money in the same currency, there should be no conversion fee. Just make sure you've added and selected the same currency under To.

  5. Select Confirm and move.

Can I add another adult?

It's possible to add another adult to keep an eye on your child's spending. They can top up when you’re busy, see the transactions, and generally share the load. Learn more about adding another adult. They can’t remove money from the account or manage its members.

Can my child have access to the app?

Only if you're in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, Singapore or Switzerland, your child can have their own child-friendly view of the Wise app. They can see how much they have to spend and gain confidence in managing their money independently. Learn more about app access.

How can I remove a Young Explorer card or close the account?

The parent who set up the account can close it — this will also cancel the card. From your Young Explorer account screen, select the 3 dots icon in the top right corner, then ‘Close group’.

How much does the Young Explorer card cost?

Young Explorer comes with no monthly subscription — there’s just a fee for ordering the physical card:

  • 10 AUD in Australia

  • 14 NZD in New Zealand

  • 8.50 SGD in Singapore

  • 8 CHF in Switzerland

  • 7 GBP in the UK

There’s no fee for the card in Brazil and Canada. When your child spends on their card, they’ll get the same benefits as you.

How many Young Explorer cards can I have?

You can order up to 5 Young Explorer cards for 6-17 year olds.

They must be for different children (you can’t have multiple cards for the same child), and you’ll need to be their parent or legal guardian.
